We got away for a minute! Husband and I took a much deserved weekend away in Fredericksburg, Texas. This old C-47 transport plane sits in front of the @hangarhotel outside Fredericksburg.
Did you know I am a WWII enthusiast? We spent the weekend deep diving into the Pacific Theater at the @pacificwarmuseum, and watching the small private planes from the “Officer’s Club” at the Hangar Hotel.
Hi there! It’s been a long time since I introduced myself to the Insta world, so here goes!
My name is Elizabeth. I am a Fletcher Qualified Pilates Teacher and a novice equestrian. I love learning new things and making connections with new people.
A number of years ago I discovered that I love how it feels to move my body through Pilates. It rejuvenates me, it brings me calmness and happiness, and the movement helps me build confidence in myself and my body’s abilities. A thoughtful and focused Pilates practice challenges you physically and mentally, a unique combination that makes me eager to share it with the world.
More recently I have been lucky enough to discover the world of horsemanship. As an adult beginner, the body awareness I had thanks to my Pilates practice made horseback riding far more intuitive. The overlap between the Pilates principles and the subtleness of classical dressage work is powerful and was immediately apparent to me, so I’m thrilled to be able to teach Pilates to some really amazing equestrians.
I love getting to know my clients and helping them to achieve real change by understanding their connection between mind and body. I teach my clients to move better using a combination of centering, control, dynamic movement, breathwork and laughter. Through movement, they build strength, flexibility and confidence. Along the way, I cherish the strong connections and perspectives I gain by working with such a great variety of people.
In 2013 I completed the Fletcher Pilates Program of Study, a truly comprehensive program of more than 500 hours of training, observation, self-practice and casework. I hold a Women’s Health and Exercise Certification, with an emphasis on pre- and post-natal Pilates, from The Center for Women’s Fitness in Chicago, and I have completed more than 50 hours of movement and anatomy training with Movement Science Made Simple. In addition, I graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Organizational Communications from Xavier University. Let’s go X!

Introducing EQUILIBRIUM.
All my life has been a search— and at times, a struggle— for balance.
Life can feel overwhelmingly busy, with constant and increasing demands on our time, energy and mental focus. My pursuit of balance shows up in different ways: teaching clients vs. attending to family needs, rest vs. movement; self care vs. work, the need to show compassion vs. the need to hold a boundary…every day looks like a unique mix of all of the above.
The longer I’ve been on this journey for myself, the more deeply I’ve recognized these needs in the clients I work with. Equilibrium is my response to what is present in all of us: an awareness of the need for, and an invitation into balance.
This community, formerly Mountain View Pilates, now Equilibrium, continues to hold space for meaningful connection, exploration, understanding, insight and growth. Together we continue to honor our unique experiences and needs inside the bodies we have— through the lenses of curiosity and honesty, playfulness and empathy.
I am wildly proud of the connections, learning, and growth my clients and I have experienced over the years, and I’m eager to continue to expand from the fortified foundations we’ve built. We continue to focus on Pilates and movement, and will be introducing additional modalities over the coming months and years to continue to offer this meaningful work.
As we move forward together into this new chapter, one thing remains: in radical acceptance, we work together to create balance; to find equilibrium.
With unending gratitude to the countless people who have encouraged and supported me through this journey, I want to specifically shout out @andrewhoesley for being a rockstar husband and dad, and Bethany @embodydesign.co, for helping me bring to life dreams I didn’t even realize I had. Xoxo
I am over the moon with my new Studio reformer! Her name is forthcoming.
My Allegro 2 was great for a time, I just never got used to the way it felt to my body. The Studio reformer feels like coming home. It moves so smoothly and feels like luxury, and the Pilates work just feels *right* here. I’m swooning over her!
Shelby and I are working on creating more freedom through her thoracic spine, so that she can move more fluidly with her horse. For Shelby that starts with awareness: properly stacking her rib cage over her hips instead of behind her pelvis. Here you see her working hard to create length through her back as she manages side splits on the reformer.
Life has been a bit cray at Mountain View Pilates! Austin is back in Stage 5 covid, so everything feels up in the air.
My little sweetheart pup tore her cruciate ligament and is recovering from surgery. The drugs make her very snuggly!
We are taking everything one day at a time, and I feel confident that things will turn out okay. Thankful for an amazing family, Pilates for sanity, books, horses, and snuggles.
Pilates for equestrians! This was my first official riding lesson, and thanks to my Pilates work, balancing on beautiful Sport was a breeze. Thanks @heartstoneranchheals!!

This week’s challenge piece from @joi_of_pilates is the Fletcher Advanced Stomach Massage. I think she was mad at me when she picked it 🤣😘 It’s been a LONG time since I did this variation and it showed. It was tough, but I worked it as best I could. And I felt proud about challenging myself, so mission accomplished! That said I struggled through Jackrabbit more than I expected, and was the real challenge in this session!

It’s challenge week here at Mountain View Pilates! One of my very favorite people on earth is a beautiful Pilates teacher. @joi_of_pilates and I are selecting one challenge piece for the other person to include in their self practice or teaching that week. I love how this takes me outside of my comfort zone and gives me a the opportunity to work pieces that aren’t in my routine.
This week’s challenge: hamstring pull to rocking on the reformer.
My self practice session:
Leg and footwork
Unilateral leg and footwork (Fletcher fondu pattern)
4-count 100s (watch my head get lower and lower as I fatigue 🤣)
Pelvic press
Roll up
Pulling strap pattern with triceps presses
T-strap pattern
Hamstring pull
Rocking
Short box series
Semi-circle

Always trying to learn and stay curious. I’ve been working with @cprpilates lately. She doesn’t know it but she’s been my Pilates crush for like 8 years 😆 My Fletcher training was amazing and truly a comprehensive experience, but I’m also having a blast looking at Pilates from a different perspective. Cara is inspiring me to up my self-practice game with different approaches to fundamentals as well as more advanced pieces. My teaching is definitely benefiting as I play with all this new information and experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What’s inspiring you lately?

Ps y’all, I am SO BAD at social media! 🤦♀️ Thanks for sticking with me!

My favorite things from this week!
.
1. My new favorite swan variation, courtesy @cprpilates. I just love the extra hamstring work, which allows me to get even more supported spinal extension.
2. Any day on the spine corrector is a good day, even when your favorite furry friend hogs the floor space.
3. Backwards rowing on the mat. I feel like rowing is everywhere right now, but with good reason. So much happening, it’s a wonderful challenge piece.
4. Building a Lego pirate ship with my Lego partner. Y’all, this Lego set was mine when I was a kid! It’s 20+ years old! Such a great experience to work on it with my kiddo.

My amazing husband helps me with studio photos. He says, “try smiling more so it looks like you’re having fun.” But he has never done hip stretch before so he doesn’t knowwww! Best I can do 😝 As always though my body thanked me afterward!

There is so much work going into this piece just to make it look like I’m sitting straight - ha! Here I’m thinking about actively flexing my feet, reaching through my heels, staying on my sitting bones, working my hip flexors, lifting my ribs away from my hips, filling out my back ribs, widening my shoulder girdle, reaching my shoulder blades forward, and reaching my head to the sky. Truthfully this was the most challenging this piece has been for me since teacher training. What I love about Pilates is that no matter how long you’ve been practicing, you can always find a little more out of a piece.

So hi! It's been a while, y'all. 😊 I had to put my fledgling Pilates studio on hold for a while because Covid. And looking back at my goals for 2020, I accomplished only a few of them. 😕 I stepped away from Instagram and scaled far back on teaching to focus on the health and well-being of my family. I managed enough self practice to get by and when I was able to do more than that I celebrated. All you mamas who managed to pull off a lot more than I could this year? Y'all are rock stars!
So I'm thinking about and planning for 2021. I'm not letting this first brutal week get me down. I have faith it will get better, and we'll start making progress in social justice and against Covid. And I'm giving myself some grace this year. My milestones for the year are still defined, but simpler and a little less ambitious, with a big focus on joy through movement, mindfulness, and service to others.
I'm excited about recommitting to my studio and hope to spend more time getting to know this community even better!!
xoxo
Elizabeth

Friday is hip mobility day at Mountain View Pilates!
The last few months have been a challenge for everyone. When the pandemic took root, I transitioned back to being a stay at home mom. In addition, I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about racial injustice in the US, how I have contributed to it, and how I can play a part in making it right. There is still a lot to process and a lot that must change.
But every Friday, my daughter and I head to the studio to work on building strong, flexible hips. It’s “us” time, where sometimes we talk about important things. Lots of times we talk about Frozen. Whatever works.

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Found myself with an unexpected 25 minutes of free time. I didn’t waste any of it changing into proper Pilates attire. I spent the entire session doing what my body craved: spine corrector!!! Hope you enjoy your long weekend and find something equally kind to do for yourself and those around you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve weathered the quarantine pretty well so far. I’ve focused on being with my immediate family and keeping them fed, learning and entertained, but I have to admit that it’s starting to get to me. The last few days have been tough, as the loneliness, boredom and worry have started to settle into depression. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sundays are always hard for me - I am notoriously antsy every single Sunday of my adult life. Yesterday my husband said, go out to your studio and take some time. I am so grateful for that push because it was just what I needed. Making time for some self care, giving myself a focus and being physical helped shake me loose from that rut, and bring me back to being present with my family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Thoracic rotation is so important to overall health. From breath to pelvic floor health, a mobile thoracic spine offers amazing benefits. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are tons of great ways to work thoracic rotation. Saw on the Cadillac will always be one of my favorites!

My two best friends have a birthday today. We’ve celebrated so many things together over the years - I wish we were together today! Happy birthday Jeanette and Kristin, the two funniest, most beautiful, ridiculous, supportive and caring people I could hope to have in my life! Love you both!
Ps I thought about tagging the wrong person in this pic just to see what y’all would say😂😘
“And so to UP!” - Ron Fletcher
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love the precision, concentration and control of Pilates. It’s easy to keep my keep my focus there, and to forget the energy and dynamic that are also important.
This Ron Fletcher quote is wonderful because it reminds me to challenge myself, to break out of my comfort zone. Adding the dynamic energy, the flow, the rhythm to Pilates brings a new dimension to movement. It not only challenges my practice, but reminds me that movement is about joy and fun. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Okay confession time: a few weeks ago I realized that my head and neck placement is not as strong as my ego wants it to be. It is affecting my ability to Keep my ribs connected, which I’ve been working hard to improve (for what feels like forever!). I had been getting pretty discouraged about my rib connection efforts until I had this revelation. Being honest with myself about what my body can do right now has given me the chance to step back and take a breath, and then approach my self practice with a fresh perspective. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Head and neck placement isn’t as sexy as amazing abs or butt, but it’s one of my favorite things that Pilates can do for a body. Improved head and neck placement is my top fitness goal for 2020. My goals are listed below. Some are very specific, and some are harder to measure, and so require thought and planning to hold myself accountable (and I’m still working on this for a couple of them! ;) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m really excited for 2020, which is not something I’ve been able to say in the past. I feel like it’s going to be a year of achievement, fun, growth and happy times. I wish the same for you!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’d love to hear your fitness goals for 2020!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fitness Goals 2020
1. Improve head and neck placement
2. Love the Short Box Series
3. Do Towel Work once a week
4. Run 2-3 5k races
5. Improve hip mobility and strength
6. Become a Climb-A-Tree rock star

For me towelwork is like running: the first few times after a break are just brutal, but then it gets better and I can tell how beneficial it is. Feeling proud of myself for getting back to it, and looking forward to it feeling better!
#mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates #towelwork #shouldergirdle
My goal is to move every day, and sometimes life makes that tough. Some days I have to choose between a workout and a shower, so my self-practice is not as consistent as I’d like (#momlife). I try to remind myself that my body will thank me for moving, even if it’s only 10 minutes of work on my worn out old mat tossed down on the deck! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates #matpilates
This week I was reminded by someone very close to me that movement is not a joyful, intuitive experience for everyone. It is not, for everyone, fun, rewarding and thrilling. For some people, movement doesn't make sense, and frankly, it's scary. It can elicit real fear of what could go wrong and how much it might hurt. The idea of movement can be paralyzing for some. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Among the many blessings in my life, I am thankful that this body of mine, though it is far from perfect, is strong and capable. It's easy for me to look in the mirror and see the many things that still need work, all the areas where I could improve on something, how far I still have to go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I also see in this body the things I CAN do: I can carry my 34 pound daughter with relative ease; I can crawl into her tent and march around the living room at playtime; I can go for a run or a 5 mile hike on the greenbelt without too much thought; I can lift and carry all my own suitcases at the airport; I can assemble an entire Allegro reformer/tower all by myself and then use it to do fancy things. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My body, with its many imperfections, has given me a beautiful daughter, and it is strong. For that I am grateful.

After six weeks of immobilizing my broken foot, articulation feels soooo good! Even while trying to do "the right things" to keep my body in alignment, the compensation patterns and lack of balance are apparent. I'm eager to regain some of the strength I've lost, and see what surprises my body has in store for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates #matpilates
Boot free! But with a carbon fiber shoe insert to keep my foot stable while it continues to heal. I’m readjusting to the balance and weight distribution, and relishing the ankle flexion. A good teaser is challenging regardless of your fitness level and I’m pumped to get back to more matwork. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates #matpilates
This is one of my favorite pieces for opening through the front line. I love the challenge of initiating from my center. Maneuvering around my boot adds an extra challenge :) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #atxpilates #spinecorrector #spinalextension #intersegmentalmovement
This was my client’s first time on the spine corrector, and she felt so much improvement from the beginning of our session to the end. We are working to increase her lumbar mobility and alleviate back pain. By the time we finished, she was seeing more intersegmental movement and could find a more even curve through her spine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#spinecorrector #spinalextension #intersegmentalmovement #mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates
Balance. It's a word I've thought a lot about in the last few years. What do I need to prioritize to achieve balance between my life as a mom and my needs as an individual, and as a wife? What balance do I strike between work, family and the things that make me happy? How do I balance my needs versus the needs of my husband? And of my daughter? What does “balance” even mean for me? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now that I'm working with a broken 5th metatarsal, though, my thoughts on balance are much more corporeal! After only 24 hours in a boot, my pelvic alignment was a mess. I've been focusing on bringing my hips back into alignment, and combating the forward rotation that my scoliosis naturally brings me into. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Working on even movement through my pelvis and lumbar spine is alleviating some of the strain I'm already feeling as my body compensates for not having use of my left foot. I'm also working the internal rotation of both legs to counterbalance the excessive turnout I'm seeing. My current favorites are leg circles and a modified teaser with my calves on the fitness ball. Seated work on the pedipul and of course lots of extension to keep my chest and hips open! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My name is Elizabeth. I love how it feels to move. Though I was never a dancer or a great athlete, I discovered around 10 years ago that Pilates brings me joy. It rejuvenates me; it lightens me; it brings me inner calmness and happiness in a way few other things can. A thoughtful and focused Pilates practice challenges you physically and mentally, a unique combination that makes me giddy and eager to share it with the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drawn to Fletcher Pilates because of its focus on breathwork, I love teaching clients to use breath to facilitate movement. I genuinely enjoy helping people understand the connection between the mind and body as the means to create real change in their bodies. Using a combination of dynamic movement, centering, control, breathwork and laughter, I help my clients learn to move better. Through movement, I help them build strength, flexibility and confidence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am a Fletcher Qualified Pilates Teacher and a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher. My husband and daughter (and my crazy dog) are the loves of my life, and in 2017, we moved to the wonderful city of Austin from Chicago. My favorite things are hiking, running, reading to my daughter, and pool time. My alma mater is Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I am a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Come move with me. DM for more info. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #mountainviewpilates #fletcherpilates #moveeveryday #movementislife #atxpilates
Breath is a fundamental part of Pilates, and the three dimensionality of breath work is key. I could spend entire sessions on breath and its inspiration for movement. The back can be a tricky place to expand your rib cage with breath, and I love helping clients improve that function.
